Abstract

Grit, currently translated as Garra, has been investigated in educational and work contexts. Especially, is related to what makes the individual to have a performance that means the fulfillment of their personal goals and their persistence even in the face of adversities. This project has four goals. Initially, based on the literature on assessment instruments and theoretical foundations on test construction, a set of items will be constructed by the authors. The items will be analyzed by two groups of university students, one from Brazil (n= 10) and the other from Portugal (n= 10), to verify if they understand the objective of each item, the instructions and all the words used in the writing. The application will be face-to-face, to better take advantage of the information coming from students. The last stage of the first objective concerns the analysis of judges. For this purpose, two groups will be composed, one from Portugal (n= 3) and the other from Brazil (n= 3). Their task will be to characterize the items in the two theoretically recommended factors, perseverance of effort and consistency of interests. An Excel spreadsheet will be prepared, which will be sent by e-mail, after the participant's acceptance. The suggestions of the students and the judges will be analyzed by the researchers. If necessary, modifications will be made to the built items. The second objective will be the validity evidence based on the internal structure and the reliability. It is expected that 1,000 students from Brazil and Portugal, aged at least 18 years, who are attending higher education will be included in the sample. Data collection through digital platforms is expected. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses will be performed. As a third objective, it is intended to study evidence of validity through related constructs, namely, coping, academic adaptation, and satisfaction with life. The instruments will also be applied via digital platform. It's estimated that 15 minutes will be sufficient for the response. Correlation and regression analyses will be performed. It should be noted that the project will only be started after its approval by a Research Ethics Committee. The last objective will be the intervention about Garra. Two groups will be participated, the experimental and the control, and three moments will be established: pre-test, intervention, and post-test. Both groups will participate in the pre- and post-test, which will consist of applying assessment instruments to measure subjective well-being, grit, and character strengths. The intervention will be aimed at the experimental group and aims to promote perseverance of effort and consistency of interests. Eight meetings will be held, with a duration of 60 minutes each, and a maximum of 12 students will participate. After the post-test with both groups, the control will receive the intervention, to promote the benefit of justice. (AU)
