Abstract

Strongly correlated electron systems present collective phenomena that demand the application of advanced experimental techniques for their understanding, many of them available only in large multi-user laboratories. The training of researchers and research groups capable of using such techniques at a high level is therefore essential. In this regular project, mobility resources are requested (field research) that will enable the execution of seven subprojects involving strongly correlated systems, using specialized equipment in several large laboratories (synchrotron and neutrons), with the participation of PhD students. The following systems will be investigated: (i) the CuSb2O6 cuprate with trirutile structure exhibiting unconventional ordering and orbital excitations; (ii) YbFe2Zn20-xCdx compounds with cage structure with possible coexistence of heavy and light fermions; (iii) Co2O3BO3 with ludwigite structure, with charge ordering and intermediate phases under heating; (iv) Ca1-xYxMnReO6 double perovskites with tunable non-collinear magnetic ordering; (v) GdRhIn5 with quasi-degenerate magnetic ground states and possible metastable phases; (vi) the cobalt-doped iridate system Sr2Ir1-xCoxO4 at the verge of a quantum metal-insulator transition; and (vii) intermetallic magnetic materials of the RNiSi3 family (R=rare-earth), using different X-ray scattering and absorption techniques, as well as neutron diffraction.
