Abstract

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is an important area of research in different fields of engineering such as civil, mechanical, naval and aeronautical. Many techniques such as Acoustic Emission (AE) and Comparative Vacuum (VC) have been studied and applied in SHM systems. However, these techniques are difficult to apply to systems that operate in real time, such as aircrafts and ships, for instance. Thus, researches have shown that other types of sensors, such as PZT ceramics (Pb-Lead Zirconate Titanate, Titanate Lead zirconate) can been explored in SHM with much success. In this context, lamb waves and electromechanical impedance (EMI) are important references of SHM techniques based on PZT. Thus, the purpose of this work is to develop a new PZT model based on transmission line parameters. The main idea is to associate a couple PZT/Structure to transmission line parameters. Thus, any change in the couple PZT/Structure will affect the EMI and, by consequence, the transmission line model associate to the system. Different simulations and experimental analysis will be carried out to better construct an efficient model. Results obtained with the proposed model and ones obtained with classical models will be compared. (AU)
