Metabolome of Eucalyptus species exposed to Na substituting K, and simultaneously to Cd and Cr

Abstract

This proposal aims to integrate research developed in Brazil, by the group of Dr Paulo Mazzafera, from the State University of Campinas, with the expertise in metabolomics of Dr Toshihiro Obata, from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. Two projects under development in Brazil, one granted by FAPESP, would have their materials subjected to metabolomics analyses. In the first project (Fapesp grant: 2021/02770-4), the physiology regarding the substitution of K by Na is studied in 8 eucalyptus species. In the second project, we study phytoextraction, exposing 9 eucalyptus species to cadmium and chromium simultaneously. This proposal aims to complement these two experiments with metabolomic analysis of the cortex and leaves from the eucalyptus species. The results can give us a general understanding of the metabolic changes and how these species adapt to Na, Cd and Cr, and how wood formation is affected. (AU)
