Study of educational methodologies based on constructionism to create content and projects to teach mathematics and science using IoT devices and a Virtual Learning Environment using machine learning as tutor

Abstract

Since 2016 the Digo Maker startup helps kids and teens to learn science and mathematics in a relevant, ludic and practical way using computational thinking. In 2021 Digo Maker developed the DigoLab platform that is a Virtual Learning Environment and microdigo an educational solution based on Internet of Thing (IoT) electronics and coding to assemble educational projects related to STEM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Statistics from PISA 2018 shows Brazil has a not good performance in literature, mathematics and science being among the 10 worst countries performance in the world and grades far below OECD countries. Another serious problem in Brazil is scholar evasion, which represent almost 1.5 million of teenagers abandoned the school every year 30 percent of that evasion is because students has lack of interest or low perspectives about what they learn. This project has intersection from 3 fields: Education, physical computer and computer science related to machine learning algorithms and Data Analytics. The foccus is investigate methodologies referenced in constructionism that can proportionate a theorical structure to develop blended learn activities using physical computer, computational thinking and using digital resources embedded with machine learning algorithms in DigoLab VLE to predict trends, performance and create microdigo project that resolve specific learning issues.
