Abstract

Phononic materials and metamaterials have unusual behaviors, such as the ability to rearrange wave propagation, carry out diode-like mechanisms, present bandgaps in certain frequency ranges and the ability to locate or confine energy, which are not observed in natural materials. They have great potential to replace traditional materials in challenging engineering applications as well as providing innovative solutions to different engineering problems. In this context, this proposal aims to acquire a 3D image correlation system for the experimental study of metamaterials and phononic crystals. The system allows the full-field vibration analysis and high-speed transient events in a wide range of applications and dynamic range, which will be provided by the two pairs of cameras (Phanton high-speed cameras and USB cameras) and the set of optical lenses (35, 50 and 100mm), in addition to software and calibration targets of different dimensions (20 to 500mm).
