USP 2021 Technical Reserve Annual Plan for the project USPnet Connectivity with REDNESP: third generation - fiber optics off - phase 3

Abstract

A large amount of money from the University budget is spent on contracts with carriers that provide Internet access to the Universitycampuses. In the long run, deploying USP own dark fiber network infrastructure connecting the campuses seems to be a viable and sustainable alternative to meet the demands of increasing traffic without the corresponding increase in cost. Having deployed buriedducts and a 72 core fiber optics cable interconnecting the Ribeirão Preto, São Carlos and Piracicaba campuses, we intend now to connect the São Paulo campus and to light up at least a pair of cores, bringing the bandwidth among the 4 campuses to 100Gbps, a ten foldincrease when compared to the currently available bandwidth.
