The judaic question in Otto Maria Carpeaux: an analysis of articles to Die Erfüllung, Berichte zur Kultur und Zeitgeschischte and Der Christliche Ständestaat

Abstract

This research studies a set of 08 (eight) articles on the Jewish question published by the Austrian-Brazilian journalist and essayist Otto Maria Carpeaux (1900-1978), between 1934 and 1938, in the publications Die Erfüllung, Berichte zur Kultur und Zeitgeschischte and Der Christliche Ständestaat, all from Vienna. The research question starts from the understanding of the political and ideological significance of Otto Maria Carpeaux's journalistic articles published in the Austrian press, between the years 1934 to 1938, and of his engagement in the struggle for Austria's independence from Germany. Otto Maria Carpeaux's articles will be studied from a methodological procedure whose purpose will be to reconstruct some elements of the socio-cultural life of the period and to establish relationships between this historical and social context with the textual elements present in these articles. This work of analysis and interpretation of Otto Maria Carpeaux's journalistic articles requires a previous step, consisting of a field research, of documentary and bibliographic nature, in archives and libraries of some institutes in Vienna, Austria, as specified in this project. In this research trip, we will have access to diverse historiographical documents such as newspaper clippings, photographs, postcards, among others, to assist in the study of the political and socio-cultural environment of Austria and Germany during the 1930s, marked by the rise of the national -socialism and anti-Semitism.
