Abstract
High speed cameras are utilized in a wide range of applications, including combustion and fluid dynamics research. For combustion research high speed cameras can be used to visualize and characterize flame propagation in internal combustion engines, rockets and jet engines. For fluid dynamics, high speed images are used to visualize and measure complex behaviors of gases and liquids to study how they interact with the surrounding environment. The use of the high-speed camera in the ITA laboratory is focused in internal combustion engines, for studies of mixing processes, flame stabilization, ignition and extinction and the chemical processes in turbulent flames in the combustion chamber. The objective is to achieve future advancement in the design and operation of cleaner and more efficient combustion systems, based on leaner mixtures and higher fuel pressures. (AU)
