Fission track method, U-Pb e U-Th/He in the apatite and zircon minerals: thermo-chronology of the NE Parana basin and Brasilia and Ribeira belts, Brazil

Through the Fission Track-Method (FTM), will be possible to continue the studies of the etching effects in the minerals, apatite and zircon to determine the different damage process of the crystalographic lattice, obtained during its crystallization or acquired throughout its history geological. Therefore, will be characterize these minerals through different techniques used in material sciences, such as: i) Optical Microscopy, OM; ii) Micro-Raman spectroscopy; iii) Atomic Force Microscopy, MFA; iv) Heavy Ion Accelerator; v) Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (MEV / EDS); vi) Electronic micro-probe and vi) Isotopic characterization through LA-ICPMS. In this way, we will have enough elements to make a theoretical and experimental study, each time more comprehensive of the different physical-chemical phenomena that occur during the natural crystallization of each mineral in order to determine the relationship between the etching, used to reveal the fission-tracks, and their crystallographic characteristics. Thus, these studies generally aim to continue to improve both MTF and U-Pb and U-Th / He methods (in the minerals apatite and zircon) at DF/FCT, UNESP, Presidente Prudente Campus, where this project will be carry out. In parallel, these dating methods will be applied to extend our Thermo-Chronology studies to the northern part of the Paraná Basin and the Brasília and Ribeira Belts. Will be determine both, the age and the thermal history of samples collected at strategic points in these study regions in such a way as to complement our data set obtained in previous projects. Thus, we will have ages via FTM and U-Pb in the same grain (apatite and/or zircon) and even in some grains, previously chosen, we may additionally have the age U-Th/He. This will follow us possible to reconstruct its thermal history from its crystallization age to the present day in such a way that we can carry out a comprehensive geochronological study of each of these regions. The final product in this application part of this project will be the study of the geochronological relationship between the Brasília and Ribeira Belts and their influence in the adjacent basins, such as the Paraná Basin and the Santos Basin, respectively. That is, it will be possible to make the source-basin correlation. (AU)
