Association between psychosocial aspects and sleep characteristics with musculoskeletal symptoms and depression among health workers: a longitudinal study

Abstract

Health workers deal with physically and emotionally stressful situations at work. Night shift professionals can present sleep imbalance. These aspects make these workers vulnerable to musculoskeletal symptoms and mental disorders. Objective: To evaluate the relationship between psychosocial aspects and sleep characteristics with musculoskeletal symptoms and depression among health workers. Methods: The study will be carried out at the three levels of SUS, involving around 2083 workers in primary, secondary and tertiary care in the municipality of São Carlos, SP. Musculoskeletal symptoms and depression will be assessed by the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire and the Beck Depression Inventory, respectively. A sociodemographic questionnaire, the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ II-Br) and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI-Br) will also be applied. Night shift workers will be assessed in relation to sleep using accelerometers. Data will be descriptively analyzed and through regression analysis to identify the factors associated with symptoms and depression. Expected results: It is expected to identify the factors associated with musculoskeletal symptoms and depression to propose specific preventive actions for health workers. (AU)
