Creative economy of Brazilian independent audiovisual: the role of creativity and the impact of innovation on the production scene of national television series. Evaluation and Proposals

Abstract

This project intends to investigate how the changes in the promotion of national independent production companies impacted, both quantitatively and qualitatively, in the group of television series produced between 2016 and 2020 - a period that starts with the beginning of Michel Temer's presidency and goes until the end of the first biennium of Jair Bolsonaro's presidency. In empirical terms, we wish to analyze the six independent production companies from the axis Rio-São Paulo and the six from Northeast that produced and exhibited more television shows with fundings from the Audiovisual Setorial Fund (FSA) in the last 15 years. By a comparative analysis of the production dynamics, the funding structure and the variety of productions, it will be possible to comprehend the current conditions and the institutional prognosis of the creative economy of Brazilian independent audiovisual, regarding nowadays technological, political and economic transformations. Starting from a concept of creative economy anchored in the idea of innovation, entrepreneurship and technological solutions, we plan to develop actions capable of deepen the feedback between the research and the Brazilian audiovisual sector, with the foundation of a Creative Hub destined to incubate independent production companies interested in the development of fictional series through consultings, mentorships and workshops; the induction of coproduction agreements; and the offer of condensed courses in the Postgraduate Program of Communication Studies, both in USP and UFPB.
