LARF Project: laser and radiofrequency for genital atrophy and urinary incontinence treatment

Abstract

New technologies are described daily as innovative options for the treatment of various gynecological disorders. However, these technologies are not always accompanied by studies that assess your safety and effectiveness. We therefore propose a prospective and comparative study evaluating two examples of new technologies, laser and radio frequency, gynecological disorders prevalent in and affecting too much quality of life, which are genitourinária syndrome of post-menopausal and urinary incontinence. The increase in life expectancy of women, as well as the transition to the senility of increasingly healthy and conscious, allows the development of research that act in an innovative way for the quality of life. The gradual decrease estrogenic levels can impair social and affective life of many women. In this study, it is proposed to observe the effects caused by therapeutic modalities alternatives to hormones in the treatment of vaginal atrophy. The project is justified by the absence of randomized works and well conducted and only small series of cases in the literature. The study group will be composed of women in post menopause, who have symptoms of vaginal atrophy, such as dryness, burning and itching vaginal, dyspareunia or other urinary symptoms and/or related to sexual dysfunction, subdivided in patients with breast cancer or the treatments will be made without with estrogen or local promestrieno, comparing with CO2 Laser and radio frequency. For the evaluation of the questionnaires will be used effects of quality of life of urinary incontinence and sexuality. In addition, gynecological exam will be held, biopsy of vagina and vulva, vaginal hormonal cytology, vaginal microbiota, measured analysis of vaginal pH and photos before treatment on subsequent visits. It is believed that with this study, establish other forms of treatment of symptoms of HMCS, significantly increasing the quality of life of women in post menopause. Another arm of the research will examine the effects of laser and radiofrequency in the treatment of urinary incontinence in women without genital dystopia. It aims to offer non-surgical alternatives for women, expanding the range of scientifically proven treatment options. The 3d arm of research will study woman with overactive bladder syndrome (AU)
