Development of biocompatible conductive substrates based on biocellulose and silk fibroin for applications in retinal implants


This proposal has a research componente and an education one. In the first one, the aim is to produce photodetectors, based on organic semiconductors sensitive to light (such as the rr-P3HT), which allow the conversion of light into electrical signals. The devices will allow the conversion of information carried by light into electrical signals. The final goal will be the implant at the photoreceptor layer of people with retina degenerative diseases, showing a path to the possibility of improving visual acuity. Biocompatible conductive substrates will be developed using bacterial cellulose and silk fibroin as substrates.In the Education component, it is intended over a year to offer two graduate courses, with a workload of 30 hours: 1-Preparation of characterization of thin films and 2- Organic Electronics.
