Neotectonics, Morphogenesis and Modern Sedimention in the São Paulo State and Neighboring Regions

Abstract

A regional synthesis on the neogene-quaternary interplate tectonic movements, landscape evolution, and formation of correlative sedimentary deposits of southeast Brazil, is searched by sistematic investigation of sellected areas and some relevant topics. Areas: (1) Mantiqueira and (2) Bocaina; (3) Fluminense Lowland; (4) Rio Piracicaba Hydrographic Basin; (5) Paraná and (6) Curitiba Basins; areas of (7) Jundiaí, (8) Rio Claro-São Carlos, (9) São José do Rio Pardo-Guaxupé, (10) Franca, (11) Paranaguá Bay, (12) Littoral. Topics: (1) Seismo-Tectonic, (2) Stress Field, (3) dating by fission track analysis and palynology. Staff: multidisciplinary group of 9 researchers of the Institut of Geosciences/State University of São Paulo (UNESP) at Rio Claro, and 13 colaborators from the Federal University of Pará (UFPa) and Minas Gerais (UFMG), University of São Paulo (USP), Institut of Technological Research (IPT), and Institut of Spacial Research (INPE). The project also looks to contribute for geotechnical, hydrogeologic, mineral exploration and environmental studies, formation of a research group, and of students (13 PhD thesis, 2 MSC thesis and some graduate students).
