Abstract

In this project, exchange visits will take place to consolidate and enhance the institutional collaboration between UNICAMP and University of Antioquia (UDEA) in order to further develop ongoing research. At FEQ/UNICAMP research has been investigating the potential of producing 1,3-butadiene (feedstock for rubber tires) from chemicals derived from sugarcane (Regular Research Award - BIOEN - 18/23983-3). At UDEA, two research groups have been investigating the production of microalga Botryococcus braunii and its thermochemical conversion into synthesis gas. Because synthesis gas can be converted into 1,3-butadiene using commercially available catalysts and equipment, it is our interest to investigate whether the gasification of microalga Botryococcus braunii and the conversion of the resulting synthesis gas into 1,3-butadiene is technically, economically, and environmentally feasible.
