General aspects of the alkaline magmatism in Southern Brazilian platform

Abstract

The present project represents the continuity of a line of research dealing with general aspects (geological, mineralogical, petrographic, petrological, geochemical and geochronological) of alkaline rocks mostly occurring along the margins of Paraná, Santos and Bauru basins and that extend over the Brazilian and neighbor countries (Paraguay, Bolivia and Uruguay) territories. This magmatism is found in the southern region of the Brazilian Platform and aged from Triassic to Paleocene. It groups a large number of occurrences that have been investigated, always with financial support from Fapesp, systematically along the years and provided valuable contribution for the better knowledge of the formation of alkaline rocks. The project is addressed to research activities including field expeditions and laboratory work mainly related to the geochemistry of rocks and minerals. (AU)
