Globosides biosynthesis during tissue repair

Abstract

The proposed project will bring together investigators from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), and the Imperial College London (ICL) with related scientific interest. A two-year planning grant is proposed to build upon experiments as well as analysis of data combining lipidomic and functional approaches of current FAPESP projects (2018/11037-6 and 2019/06762-6). The aim of this project is to evaluate if the globosides biosynthesis is modulated during wound healing. The results will add a new molecular mechanism possibly involved in the skin repair, the focus of the project entitled "The involvement of macrophages on the effects of omega-3 fatty acids on the wound healing process: from bench to bedside (FAPESP: 2018/11037-6) supervised by Prof. Rodrigues. This collaborative project will be divided in 3 phases. In the first phase (year 1) Dr. Hosana Rodrigues, the PI from the UNICAMP, will travel to UK to discuss the experimental protocols and to define a strategic plan to facilitate the further development of lipidomics analysis in the ongoing project. In the second phase (year 1) a PhD student, from UNICAMP, will spend 2-4 weeks at the ICL for training in western blotting and lipidomics under supervision of Dr. Behmoaras. In the third phase (year 2), Dr. Jacques Behmoaras and Mr. Ko the Researcher Technician, from ICL, will travel to Brazil to discuss the final results of the project. The PIs will also discuss and to propose new collaboration between both groups. One Symposium or Workshop will be organized also in the second year with the participation of all investigators, and it will be opened to the scientific community at UNICAMP/Limeira, Brazil. Data and mouse models produced during this project will be used to prepare new collaborative applications for funding to FAPESP and UK agencies. (AU)
