Abstract

The current literature on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) seeks to understand what attracts such investments to a specific region, and its possible environmental consequences. However, it is rare to find studies employing municipal-level data while considering the investments' country origins in developing economies. Thus, the proposed research aims to understand the FDI locational drivers in the State of São Paulo - Brazil, and its regional-level environmental impacts. Additionally, a new and unique municipal database on foreign investments will be constructed for the State of São Paulo, which, in addition to the assessment of the aforementioned objectives, will result in the first municipal-level FDI ATLAS for the whole state of São Paulo. The expected results will be of interest to investors and policy-makers. (AU)
