Simulation and analysis of electromagnetic transients with modified numerical models

Abstract

The research project presented should be developed for two years and it focuses on the development of numerical models modified for application in simulations and analysis of propagation of electromagnetic transients in transmission lines. The purpose is to improve the numerical modeling of transmission lines using techniques of state variables, considering the introduction of damping resistance in the currently used model as a way to reduce errors caused by numerical oscillations generated by the combination of the modeling used with the integration method applied. This model will be tested in different forms of application, searching for introducing the influence of the frequency on the longitudinal parameters of transmission lines in the future. The analyzes and simulations based on this numerical modeling improvement should be appropriate for the study and simulation of energy systems based on large generating centers and also considering the introduction of distributed generation, as well as applications in the telecommunications area, where the theory of transmission lines can be used for analysis of propagation of high-frequency signals such as coaxial cables and waveguides. This project is a sequence of research work carried out in the last three years and its results have published in different ways: congresses, journals and book chapters. During these three years, the research work was supported by FAPESP. The proposed project is also based on research papers developed also in the last three years by a group of students of Scientific Initiation. These students are also sponsored by FAPESP. (AU)
