Abstract

IoT (Internet of Things) systems are growing in importance all over the world, due to the increasing use of sensors in many situations, and the growth of 4- and 5G network services. Examples of applications include smart homes, healthcare, or digital agriculture, among many other fields. There are, nonetheless, many open research questions to take advantage of the full potential of this technology, including issues concerning application modeling, scalable solutions, stream data management, communication protocols or location-awareness. The goal of this project is to exploit the adoption of actor databases to support modeling and scalable implementation of IoT systems. The proponents collaborate since 2018, within an ongoing project concerning actor database models, supported by the Danish Agency for Science and Higher Education, and which will end in December 2019. This project will extend that collaboration, to meet some of the challenges that have been elicited during the ongoing project, and which are outside its scope. Results will be applied to the field of digital agriculture, in which proponents from both countries have experienced. Besides scientific goals, we intend to prepare the grounds for a large long-term project involving data-intensive problems, using workshops to engage other partners to submit to Horizon Europe and/or FAPESP thematic line.
