Abstract

Prof. David Trotman is Full Professor at the Université Aix Marseille, since 1888. Distinguished research in Stratification Theory, his main contribution is on properties of stratification satisfying regularity conditions. His collaboration with the São Carlos Singularity group started in 1991, and his first visit to São Carlos was in 1998, to attend the V Workshop on Real and Complex Singularities. Since then, he has visited this institute many times, supported by USP-COFECUB projects and various Projetos Temáticos FAPESP. Our researchers have also visited the Singularity Group at Aix Marseille University several times. The Brazilian and French teams have been responsible for the supervision of 4 joint PhD students. During his visit to ICMC-USP, Prof. David Trotman will participate on various academic activities related to resarch projets of the São Carlos singularity group. He will continue his collaboration with Prof. Maria Aparecida Ruas on Lipschitz geometry and topology of singularities; he will give a seminar in our "Seminários de Singularidades", and in the opportunity he will divulge his research area to local researchers and students. During his visit he will participate on the Thesis Defense Committee of the PhD student Hellen Monção de Carvalho Santana, a Double Diploma student (ICMC-USP and Aix-Marseille University). Thus, the visit of Professor David Trotman to ICMC will bring concrete benefits to the projects of the local singularities group, favoring the development of projects already underway and the creation of new research projects, thus strengthening the collaboration between the Brazilian and French singularity groups.
