Abstract

This is a proposal to undertake world-class research that will push the frontiers in system innovation, with its concomitants strategies of organizations and policy governance. The research program intends to build a sustainable research unit in this field between the PI, the co-PIs, the associate investigators (AIs), post-doctoral researchers, doctoral students, and visiting scholars using the expertise and the combined global research networks of a broad and distinguished groups of experts from Brazil and abroad. The ambition is to place DPCT among the ten leading innovation research centers in the world within the next five years. The program is structured around four Research Trajectories under the umbrella of system innovation: 0. System Innovation1. Technology Upgrading, Catching-up2. Research and Innovation Policy Design, Implementation, Evaluation 3. Ecosystems for Innovation and Entrepreneurship4. Big Data for Assessing Innovation Processes and Research and Innovation PolicyA broad range of outcomes are expected mainly related to personnel qualification in innovation studies, production of theses and dissertations, publication of scientific papers in internationally ranked journals and books with reputable international publishers, and the leveraging of FAPESP and UNICAMP support with extramural funds. The outcomes will also include the joint formulation of analytical and policy modeling methodologies with intense interaction with relevant research centers around the world as well as with associated institutions in the State of São Paulo and Brazil. Our record with an earlier, related SPEC project (InSySPo) (http://www.ige.unicamp.br/spec/), currently on its final year, underlines the expectations for very significant outcomes. (AU)
