Monitoring, analysis and control of voltage instabilities in electric power systems

Abstract

This research works focuses on developing advanced methodologies for monitoring, analysis and control of voltage instabilities in the real time operation and operation planning of power systems. Those methodologies must be computationally efficient and sufficiently accurate to provide the operator/network analyst with relevant information regarding (a) the system's current operating conditions; (b) the future operation conditions in terms of the forecasted demand variation; (c) the future operating conditions in terms of the occurrence of contingencies; (d) possible preventive and/or corrective control action strategies in case insecure operating situations are detected/foreseen. Efficient network analysis tools must be used, including optimization, artificial intelligence and/or evolutive computing techniques. (AU)
