MulTeC (Multimodal Teletandem Corpus): further uses and developments

Abstract

Digital data which are open access to any researcher so that he/she can use, modify and share (Open Knowledge, 2013) mean that the term " research data" needs, firstly, to include data that have already been collected, anonymized, processed, annotated, interpreted and shared to the scientific Community and, secondly, include the notion that research data form a data cycle to be interrogated by multiple perspectives. The organization of MulTeC (Multimodal Teletandem Corpus), sponsored by FAPESP # 16/18705-9, resulted in a multimodal corpus that includes data from 282 foreign language learners (English and Portuguese) collected during teletandem sessions (Telles, 2006) between 2012 and 2015 at UNESP/São José do Rio Preto (https://teletandemriopreto.wixsite.com/ibilce). The corpus comprises a total of 581 hours of oral interaction, 666 learning journals, 351 chat conversations, 956 written texts in different genres produced by Brazilian language learners who are learning English and corrected and commented by American language learners who are studying Portuguese in three versions (first draft, commented and final), 91 initial questionnaires and 41 final ones. This project aims at (i) interrogating MulTeC via socio rhetoric approach of genre analysis; (ii) spreading the corpus so that other and different researchers should use it and interrogate it via multiple theoretical perspectives.
