Investigating the changing tropical ocean modes of climate variability and its impact on the South American Monsoon System in past warm climates

The emphasis of this proposal is to address key questions associated with the relationships between modes of climate variability and the South American Monsoon System considering warm climates. Our working hypothesis is two-fold i) that changes in warm climates could be analogues for future projections where the displacement of the ITCZ could certainly impact on climate-related variability of the SAMS through ocean-atmosphere exchanges and ii) that the impact of ocean surface temperatures associated with the dominant modes of climate variability on the SAMS happens through the response of the ITCZ.
