Abstract

Maximizing control efficiency, with the least possible environmental contamination in an economical way are the greatest challenges of professionals involved with pesticide application technology. This research aims to characterize how droplet size (experiment 1); agricultural adjuvant and rainfall simulation (experiment 2) may affect the spray deposits and herbicide phytotoxicity on weeds. The verification of spray deposits will be carried out by spraying the solution of Brilliant Blue food dye at concentration of 1.5 g L-1 plus herbicide on weed species with different morphological characteristics. The deposits values in mL g-1 aerial part of dry mass (APDM) will be submitted to analysis of variance and the means compared by the SNK test (p <0.05). For analysis of spray deposits uniformity, the data will be adjusted to the logistic regression analysis. To characterize the effect of different application techniques on weed control efficacy, herbicide will be sprayed at concentrations of 9D; 3D; D; 1/3D; 1/9D; 1/27D; 1/81D and 0D of the commercial label rate D recorded for each plant species. Evaluations will be constituted by the visual percentage of control efficacy and the APDM. With the data the dose-response curves will be elaborated using the log-logistic model calculated by non-linear statistical model using the statistical program R. Treatments will be compared by the C50 values (dose required to reduce 50% of APDM or cause 50% of control). The influence of the simulated rainfall will be evaluated by visual phytotoxicity and APDM being the means of the treatments compared by the SNK test at 5% probability. All experiments will be performed in duplicate to ensure greater reliability of the results. (AU)
