Medical device for epileptic seizures prediction

The project consists of the development of a portable device for patients with epilepsy that alerts up to 25 minutes in advance about an incoming seizure. One of the greatest challenges for those who have epilepsy is to predict when a seizure will occur. Patients and caregivers often go through high levels of stress due to unpredictability of the seizure. This has a significant impact on the quality of life of these patients and relatives and limits them in the daily activities. The device consists of electrodes connected to a hardware. The electrodes measure and send EEG signals (electroencephalogram) to the processor that constantly performs signal analysis through embedded software. After studies of the feasibility in phase 1 of the PIPE, we started to development the product itself. For this we will work on 10 different areas: hardware, firmware, software, big data analysis, web development, application development, mechanical design, market research, regulatory study and elaboration of clinical protocols that apply to the device, and medical advice for both the required operation of the device and for guidance on electroencephalogram signals.
