Development of technologies for sustainable production of aquatic organisms with potential for certification.

Abstract

From the 90's the fish production achieved world acceptance due to the inclusion of commercial diet in traditional systems. Polycultures were replaced by intensely feed monocultures, with a consequent increase in the cost of production and use of nutrients that can lead to the eutrophication of water bodies. The new aquaculture emerges with the challenge to be, at the same time, efficient and productive, spending the minimum resources to produce as much food as possible. In this sense, our proposal aims to test technologies of integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA) in continental and marine aquaculture in ponds. In continental aquaculture, the production of lambari in effluent of tilapia or lambari culture will be evaluated in order to recycle nutrients from feed and feces to promote the colonization of periphyton on substrate that serves as food for lambaris. In the marine aquaculture, marine macroalgae and filtering molluscs will be added in the shrimp culture, resulting in an effluent with low nutrients concentration, which can be reused in shrimp production or discharged into the natural environment. Both experiments will be evaluated through the variables of performance, water nutrient balance, economic viability and sustainability. The results obtained will be published in technical and scientific journals, as well as exposure the new technologies in showcase form of the experiments in progress. (AU)
