Abstract

This proposal aims the internationalization of researches on geosynthetics at UFSCar by the strengthening of international cooperation with Professor Jorge Gabriel Zornberg from The University of Texas at Austin. We have maintained the partnership with Dr. Zornberg since 2011, which has resulted in relevant international scientific publications. The intention of this purpose is to consolidate the research partnership with prof. Zornberg and to improve the quality of researches developed by the group of study on geosynthetics at UFSCar. Prof. Zornberg is a world-renowned researcher on geosynthetics, mainly regarding the application of these materials in reinforced soil and pavements. In 2018, the prof. Zornberg was past president of the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) and has became an honorable member due to his dedication on geosynthetics and IGS for more than 10 years. In 2019, prof. Zornberg was honored by the IGS with the "Zornberg Lecture" that will be first given in the Pan-American Conference on Geosynthetics (GeoAmericas) to be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2020. The main benefits involving Prof. Zornberg's visit to Brazil are the internationalization of research projects developed by the GEGeos/UFSCar as well as the definition of interchange of Brazilian graduate students to The University of Texas at Austin.
