Pequi oil (Caryocar brasiliense) in feeding of broilers

Abstract

Three experiments will be carried out to evaluate the effects of the addition of pequi oil in the feed of broilers under the characteristics of performance, antioxidant system activity, health, quality and oxidative stability of meat. To determine the energetic value and the composition of the pequi oil will be carried out experiment I, using 80 male broilers, with 21 days of age, that will be distributed in metabolism cages in a completely randomized design with two treatments, eight replications and five birds per experimental unit. The treatments will be: control diet and diet with inclusion of 10% pequi oil. The performance and yield of carcass and parts will be evaluated in experiment II using 1200 male broilers Cobb®500, created from 1 to 42 days old, distributed in a completely randomized design with six treatments: positive control, negative and four inclusion levels of pequi oil of 0.15; 0.30; 0.45; 0.60%, and eight replicates with 30 birds per experimental unit. In experiment III, 400 male 1-day-old of the Cobb® 500 strain will be used, which will be housed two climatic chambers, one thermoneutra and the other with cyclic heat stress, of 40 metabolic cages each, and the temperature of stress will be maintained for 8 hours every day. The design will be completely randomized, in a 2 x 5 factorial scheme (2 temperatures and 5 oil levels) in which the inclusion of pequi oil will be: 0,0; 0.15; 0.30; 0.45 and 0.60%, with eight replicates and five birds each. The data will be tabulated and analyzed using analysis of variance with SAS 9.2 (SAS Institute, 2008) and, when significant, the means will be compared by the Tukey test (P <0.05). For the inclusion levels of pequi oil, regression analysis (Reg Reg of SAS 9.2) will be applied and for the variables that do not meet the premises of normality and homogeneity tests will be used Kruskal Wallis test, followed by the Chi-Square test (P <0.05).
