Development and characterization of nanostructures using ionizing radiation for applications in the industry and medicine

Abstract

The arrival of Polish visiting researcher Slawomir Kadlubowski to the Polymeric Biomaterials Laboratory of the Chemistry and Environment Center (CQMA) of IPEN will provide excellent support in the development of projects of the center, such as: "Low cost and highly absorbent advanced dressings based on hydrogel with silver nanoparticles", "The effect of gamma radiation on crosslinking, sterilization and formation of silver nanoparticles from gels to negligible diseases", "Protein-based nanostructured systems induced by radiation as carriers of chemotherapeutic agents", "Development of the recycling/recovery process of vulcanized rubbers by means of ionizing radiation and mechanical shear for new applications", "Synthesis induced by radiation of papain-based nanocarriers for radiopharmaceutical loading", "Tumor ablation in vitro and in vivo using ionizing radiation and Pd and Au nanoparticles coated by biopolymers", "Comparative study of different methodologies for the synthesis of nanogels as potential drug carriers", "Development of nanostructured systems to increase the efficacy of chemotherapy and immunotherapy for bladder cancer", "Evaluation of radiolabeled protein nanoparticles directed to breast tumors as potential terantic agents", "Synthesis and characterization of poly (N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) hydrogels containing RD laponite clay for modulation of neomycin/nanosilver release", "Development of structured dermal substitute based in gelatin/alginate/poly/ (e-caprolactone) functionalized with albumin", "Development of gold nanoparticles for therapy and diagnosis of cancer using green nanotechnology" and "Study of hydrogels based on PVP/papain absorbed in gold nanoparticles in the treatment of debridement in pressure ulcers. The visiting researcher is an associate professor at Lodz University of Technology at the Institute of Applied Radiation Chemistry with in-depth knowledge in radiation chemistry and structural modification of polymers and polymer processing by radiation, and specific experience in nanotechnology with a focus on the development and characterization of hydrogels and nanogels prepared with ionizing radiation. He will carry out the work plan titled "Development and characterization of nanostructures using ionizing radiation for applications in Industry and Medicine" and will teach the postgraduate course entitled "Use of radiation in the development of nanostructures for health area". The topics covered in the course will be: Radiation chemistry of polymers (Equations and calculations for synthesis of nanogels - planning, analysis of the results, crosslinking of a polymer in solution - Gx, Dg based on Mw and degradation of the polysaccharide - GS based on Mv (molecular weight: viscometry, light scattering, GPC), Radiation synthesis, properties and applications of nanogels (structure of macromolecules, hydrogels, nanohydrogel, interpolymer complexes, kinetics and synthesis, microgels and nanogels).
