Biosynthesis of natural products, isotopic labeling and NMR analysis

Abstract

Prof. Schneider is a specialist in biosynthesis of natural products, especially in the phenylphenalenones and coumarins. We recently initiated coumarin biosynthesis studies and the results are facilitating new work on the activation of prenyltransferase protein expression in Citrus, aiming to increase plant xanthine levels in particular and thus increase resistance against plant pathogens. Prof. Schneider has been working with one of the major enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of these coumarins, the CYP71AZ P450. Thus, the coming of this professor aims to strengthen our relations in this theme, and contribute to the production of citrus in the future. The program is he teaches during one week a course involving biosynthesis with genetic application and analysis of intermediates via NMR. The second objective is he transfers his experience in the use of the "Triple Resonance MicroCryoProbe", specific for analysis of intermediates in concentrations below microgram. We imported this probe via the theme INCT 2014/50918-7, which is not on SAGE. (AU)
