Synthesis and structural modifications of butyrolactone derivatives to obtain new compounds of biological interest


This research project aims to obtain derivatives of various types of gamma-butyrolactone by multicomponent processes. These compounds have great structural diversity and can provide a useful library of compounds to aid chemo-medicinal studies. We intend to continue to use some synthetic multicomponent synthetic approaches that have been developed in our research group. Then, we intend to improve the yield and the stereoselectivity of the reactions, so that they effectively can be used to synthesize several compounds, such as biologically active derivatives of natural products, and to obtain new compounds of pharmacological interest. Purification of the synthesized products and their adequate structural elucidation by different spectroscopic methods will be necessary. Subsequently, we will conduct many kinds of biological assays using the obtained compounds. This last part of the project will have the collaboration of researchers from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto/USP and the University of Franca, with whom we maintain collaborative projects.
