Activation of railway heritage in interdisciplinary Methodologies

Abstract

This project takes an old stretch of railway operation in the state of Sao Paulo (from Jundiaí to Campinas) to try new methodologies of record (of cultural material or documentary), guidelines for preservation and instruments of activation (functional, potential and sensory) on the industrial heritage, from theoretical and methodological perspectives multi and interdisciplinary. We consider several disciplinary understandings (history, archeology, urban, architectural, anthropological, tourism), to deal with different purposes in relation to assets and railway sites: identification, correlations, application of new technologies, instruments of protection and public policies, diffusion models or tourism planning. With methodology based on the Logical Framework and interdisciplinary theory, we defined multidisciplinary procedures: disciplinary record; recovery and organization of data. Our challenge is to do an interdisciplinary analysis of railway assets in relation to the problems of preservation of industrial heritage. In general, the activities and products expected are: books and articles; research seminars; study missions and technical visits; scientific exchanges involving our staff to national and foreign institutions. We also believe that this proposal has the potential for the formation of human resources dedicated to a particular asset (industrial railway heritage) of growing interest in Brazil and international context - as demonstrated by international partnerships associated with the project.
