3D digital mapping study (photogrammetry) for education and patrimonial documentation

Abstract

This project is related to the researches that have been developed in the N.ELAC (Center for the Study of Languages in Architecture and City) of the Institute of Architecture and Urbanism of the University of São Paulo (IAU.USP), of which the proponent of this project is founding member. N.ELAC develops research related to Language and Representation, including the role of digital tools. In addition to research in the field of digital technologies, the group has been developing from 2012 to the present day, extension projects involving Patrimonial Education by means of playful games, among which digital games involving digital representation (designs and models). This research is born from the works presented at the International Brazil-Italy Colloquium "Drawing in history: art, instrument and hand", organized by N.ELAC with the support of FAPESP, in 2017. This research has as main objective the study and the experimentation of digital mapping - photogrammetry, with application in two fronts: in the documentation of historical-cultural heritage and as contribution to Patrimonial Education (games using digital models). The project will have as object of study the Fazenda do Pinhal, located in São Carlos, SP. This research intends to establish a Cooperation Agreement between IAU.USP and the Casa do Pinhal Study Center, consolidating the research and extension activities of USP. The development of the research, the international missions and the execution of the digital models with advice from the Polytechnic of Milan (POLIMI), the exchanges of knowledge between the laboratories involved (N.ELAC - IAU.USP and He.Su.Tech group of the Mantova Lab - POLIMI) will strengthen the existing Cooperation Agreement between IAU.USP and POLIMI. Methodology. Repository construction: bibliographic research on themes: documentation and patrimonial education, 3D mapping, preservation strategies and graphic representation; studies already carried out where such technologies have already been used; systematization of the patrimonial information of Fazenda do Pinhal. Experimental Investigations: systematization of the graphic information collected and produced about Fazenda do Pinhal, first experimentation of photogrammetry applied to objects such as the religious Altar found in the chapel of Fazenda and the dress of the Countess, exhibited in the House; elaboration of the initial model of the Main House of the Treasury, with use of Sketchup. This model will be used for the development of digital game for heritage education and in a second stage, will serve as support for the photogrammetry of the House of Finance; elaboration of the digital model of Fazenda do Pinhal from photogrammetry. Reflection spaces: reflection on the contributions of the new digitalisation technologies, relating them to the issue of the digital registry in the present time, the advantages of its use and the creation of a greater awareness about the patrimonial value; understanding about the application of such digitization technologies as a contribution to both the recording of heritage (and its preservation), and in the field of restoration, the possibility of the interaction of the researcher with other means of manufacturing three-dimensional models; use of technology and its products in environmental education, it is hoped to create a virtual route through the Farm from the models developed. This research will count on the participation of Associate Researchers: Prof. Joubert Lancha (IAU.USP), Prof. Paulo Castral (IAU.USP) and Prof. Andrea Adami (POLIMI); 02 IAU.USP (PUB) scholarship holders (PUB) from this applicant: Laura Torggler and Marina Fuser and 01 student of the IAU.USP (ex-scholar of this proponent, Giulia Ravanini, who is doing exchange with USP scholarship, at POLIMI and will do internship with Prof. Andrea Adami). It will also have the collaboration of the "Center of Studies Casa do Pinhal", coordinated by Denize Quinsler. (AU)
