Abstract

Insecticide resistance represents a growing constraint on the productivity of Brazilian agriculture, and strategies and tools to prevent, slow or overcome the emergence and spread of resistance are urgently required. The development of effective approaches to combat resistance requires knowledge of the underlying mechanisms of resistance evolution, however, current studies are hampered by a lack of genomic and transcriptomic resources for key crop pests. This pump-prime project aims to: 1) Provide underpinning data and omic resources that can be exploited in follow on projects to understand the mechanisms of insecticide resistance in two key insect crop pests of Brazilian agriculture, and 2) develop an integrated network of key stakeholder groups as a prerequisite for effective translation of the tools and knowledge generated in this and future projects into strategies to combat resistance.
