The research group on fire safety structures (GPESI) of the Department of Structural Engineering and Geotechnics of the Polytechnic School of USP, led by the applicant, is very productive, even in aspects not researched nationally and little internationally.GPESI's research comes through years. In the initial phase of the research, it was dedicated to understanding the behavior of materials and basic structural systems in a fire situation. It is currently engaged in advanced numerical studies on concrete and steel structures in fire. The applicant has more than 250 publications in journals, books and congresses proceedings. The objective of this project is to continue the advanced analysis, which considers the determination of the thermal field, geometric non-linearity and materials, which include fissures and redistribution of effort; the restriction to thermal deformation (axial and rotational), for example, the effect of the thermal gradient; non-symmetric fire etc. In addition to the numerical analysis, we intend to initiate the experimental analysis, which is very few explored in Brazil. The items studied in this Project will be: fire proof coatings on concrete structural elements; behavior of reinforced concrete beams with thermal deformation constraints; relationship between the semi-continuity of composite beams of steel and concrete and the need to protection the steel beam against fire; on the effect of dilatation of beam on façade columns in fire; local instability in welded or rolled steel beams; global behavior of a steel structure on fire.
