Abstract

Photocatalytic oxidation nowadays has been pledging as the valuable process for air and water purification because of its capability to inactivate bacteria and degrade organic pollutants without using chemicals to produce harmless products. The photocatalytic process has a great deal of interest in photodegradation of organic compounds present in wastewater with application of titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a photocatalyst. TiO2 is one of the best semiconductors that has high chemical resistance, highly photoactive, low cost material and large surface area to volume ratio towards the light irradiation. The TiO2/PVDF composite membranes prepared in this work promise great potential uses in water purification applications as microfiltration membranes due to its excellent physical/chemical resistance, and mechanical properties. The use of photocatalytic fibers will allow its easy separation after a photochemical reaction and reuse, which will increase its practical application. (AU)
