KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE OF PHYSIOTHERAPISTS IN THE REHABILITATION OF WOMEN SUBMITTED TO MAMMARY RECONSTRUCTION AFTER TREATMENT FOR BREAST CANCER

Abstract

Introduction: Breast reconstruction is a valuable adjunct in the treatment of breast cancer, contributing to better body image and quality of life. However, it is not free of sequelae, such as scarring disorders - flap necrosis and dehiscence, edema, pain, shoulder range of motion restriction, and biomechanical changes of muscles and joints. Physiotherapy may contribute to the prevention and improvement of complications related to breast reconstruction. However, there is still no consensus in the scientific literature about this practice. Objective: To evaluate the knowledge, attitude and practice of physiotherapist professionals in relation to the rehabilitation of women submitted to breast reconstruction after treatment for breast cancer. METHODS: A cross-sectional study conducted in partnership with the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, which will include specialist physiotherapists in Women's Health and / or Oncology and those who work in reference centers for the care of patients with breast cancer, Brazil and the United Kingdom. After the survey of the specialist physiotherapists who will answer the questionnaire in both countries, the researchers will send an email with information related to the research project and the link to the self-answered questionnaire that will be available for a period of 2 months in Google Forms, in the English and Portuguese languages: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Cbk0fBP6BfZNLfuFBWzOfrGfTmic0HkhENFtTczeEqQ/edit. The estimated sample is 200 questionnaires answered. After the end of the collection period the data will be exported from the online platform for analysis in Microsoft Excel® software. The data will be presented in a descriptive way for each question, in order to demonstrate the characteristics of the information. (AU)
