Abstract

The Faculty of Medicine of Jundiaí (FMJ) completes in the current year (2018) 50 years of creation (Municipal Law 1506 of March 12, 1968, with the recognition by Federal Decree No. 71656 of January 4, 1973). It stands out as an institution of excellence dedicated to the training of healthcare professionals since its foundation. Currently counting with annual classes of 120 undergraduate students in Medicine. In 2016, the FMJ received a grade 4 in the National Student Performance Examination (ENADE), consolidating its position among the most respected Medical Education Schools in Brazil.More recently, the FMJ has been investing and encouraging the development of Scientific Research projects, having created an Academic Graduate Program in Health Sciences, approved by CAPES in 2010 and implemented in 2011 (Decree MEC nº1364 / 2011, published in the DOU of 09/30/2011). Initially (2011 to 2016) the Postgraduate program only counted with a Master of Science Course, but in 2017 a Doctoral Course has initiated. At the time of its creation, the FMJ Postgraduate Program received a grade 3 (regular) from CAPES, having obtained a grade 4 (good) in the last four-year evaluation (2018), therefore evidencing its commitment to improving scientific research quality developed in the Institution. Currently, the Postgraduate Program of the FMJ has 20 researchers from different areas (Basic and Clinical), who develop scientific research projects in an integrated way, with the collaboration of other Brazilian (particularly USP and UNICAMP) and international Research Institutions. In addition to the postgraduate research activities, FMJ also encourages the development of Scientific Initiation projects through its Institutional Program for Scientific Initiation Grants (PIBIC) with scholarships funding by the institution itself, and through development agencies such as CNPq and FAPESP.To develop these activities, the FMJ counts on only 4 laboratories exclusively destined to the research: Laboratory of Tissue Morphology, Laboratory of Protein Quantification and Cell Culture, Laboratory of Pediatric Infectology, Laboratory of Immunology and Cellular Culture and an Animal Research Facility. These laboratories were set up as a result of the direct investment of the Institution and of funds obtained from several agencies (CNPq / CAPES and FAPESP). However, as a result of the recent increase in research activities in the Institution, due to the creation of the Doctorate Course and the increase in the number of undergraduate students (which implies an increase in the demand for Scientific Initiation), the FMJ has invested in improving its laboratory structure destined to research activities. Particularly, with the destination of a new area of approximately 145m2 for the implantation of a multidisciplinary laboratory that will attend to the Professors and Students who develop projects of Postgraduate and Scientific Initiation in the Institution.
