Effects of hormonal contraceptives on metabolism of nitric oxide (NO), inflammatory and lipidic profile, oxidative stress and mood states after acute exercise in women practitioners of regular physical exercise.

Abstract

The monitoring of women who practice physical exercises regularly allows the development of research covering several areas of health. Since the use of hormonal contraceptives is widely spread in this population the purpose of this study is to relate the effects of hormonal contraceptives on metabolism of nitric oxide (NO), an inflammatory profile, lipidic, oxidative stress and mood states in women practicing regular physical exercises users and not users of hormonal contraceptives. We chose to study cytokines, oxidative stress and States of mood and anxiety based on literature reports and studies from our group with male and female athletes. Also we chose to study the metabolism (in blood and exhaled) on behalf of your protective role of the cardiovascular system, and that can change with the use of contraceptives. The study group will consist of about 130 women practicing regular physical activity with age varying between 18 and 35 years are divided into six groups according to the type of birth control used and the Group of non-users. To determine the perception of moods and anxiety questionnaires will be used: Humor Scale Brunel-BRUMS for moods; and Beck anxiety Scale-BAI for anxiety. Blood samples will be collected for the determination of the oxidative metabolism, cytokines and nitric oxide in all groups. Additionally also will be collected in the vented. This study will provide a better understanding of the relationship of regular exercise with immuno-inflammatory responses; oxidative stress, emotional States and the bioavailability of the women who use hormonal contraceptives; enabling the improvement of the performance of same as well as the protection of health of these women.
