Abstract

The World Health Organization has been warning us of the obesity epidemic that affects people of all age groups and socioeconomic groups in both developed and developing countries. Therefore, studies have demonstrated the higher prevalence of other diseases associated with obesity, such as increased susceptibility to infectious conditions, inflammatory processes and chronic diseases, including peptic ulcer disease. It is known that one of the causes for the occurrence of these pathological conditions is the low-grade chronic inflammatory process that affects obese individuals, which induces a change in the profile of inflammatory mediators, increasing the infiltrate of cells of the immune system in the adipose tissue and in the hypothalamic regions, consequently promoting significant metabolic alterations. Aiming to improve survival and provide drug alternatives for the treatment of inflammatory metabolic and systemic conditions in addition to the healing action of gastric ulcer, this project is based on previous studies of our group that reported the action of citral that presents a significant reduction in relevant pro inflammatory mediators and effective curative action of gastric ulcer lesions of animals with normal diet. Therefore, we intended to evaluate the response profile of citral using mice under a hyperlipidic diet, since obesity is associated with worse healing and a change in inflammatory markers including pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines (AU)
