NAADP/TPC signaling regulation of autophagy on diseases

Abstract

Management of intracellular levels of macromolecules, as protein and lipids, is essential for the efficiency of cellular processes which include growth, stress response and cell survival. The obtained information will help to develop a useful working model to better understand quality control of intracellular lipids accumulation and protein aggregation, which may provide functional information about the adaptive traits with alimentary and neuroprotective mechanisms for future economical implications. The overall impact of this collaborative project can be summarized in the following principal points: 1. A greater understanding of cell mechanisms to study strategies to diminish unwanted cellular accumulation of lipids and proteins caused by multifactors; 2. Novel protocols for physiological studies will result from this work. Lipophagy and Agrephagy are still relatively new and only little explored, so the outcome of our work will provide further proof of principal and would result in a novel analysis approach which addresses an unmet need in biochemistry and cell biology. During this period, the visiting professor fellow will interact and collaborate with at least directly with researchers from Department of Pharmacology with different scientific area of expertise, obtaining a valuable experience in terms of experimental techniques, methods of analysis and scientific improvement for students. This exchange of experiences will bring a significant improvement of skills and knowledge. This also includes the opportunity to get in touch with an extensive network, contributing to strengthen Brazilian international cooperation that favors institutional mobility programs, key elements in the development of high quality research in calcium signalling, autophagy and diseases.
