Evaluation of microdecomposition and microextraction strategies for quality control of fuels

Abstract

Sample preparation is highly susceptible to analyte loss and contamination, and spends a lot of time of the analysis. Disadvantagens of sample decomposition and extraction can be overcome by the preparation in the microscale range. In this strategy, small amounts of sample and reagents are employed, minimizing waste generation and time for analysis. The steps can be carried out in flow-based systems, minimizing analyte losses and sample contamination. The processing is highly reproducible, allowing analytical applications of incomplete decompositions and extractions. In this project, batch and in-line microdecomposition and microextraction will be evaluted using microwave radiation, and liquid-liquid interactions. The procedures will target the determinations of total phosphorus and free glycerol in biodiesel. The proposed alternatives are expected to overcome disadvantages of reference procedures, minimizing waste generation, cost, and time for analysis in an efficient and accurate ways. The analytical features will be estimated, and the results for sample analysis will be critically compared with those obtained with reference and/or previously proposed procedures. (AU)
