Synthesis of heterocyclic compounds for biological and technological applications


The increasing demand for small organic molecules for use in the development of new drugs and new materials has increased interest in the synthesis of compounds containing functionalized heterocyclic nucleus. A large number of heterocyclic derivatives have been synthesized in the last decades through several synthetic routes, in order to obtain compounds that are more active and establish the relationship between the structures and their physical, chemical and biological properties. However, it is still necessary to propose new synthetic routes or adaptations of routes already known, to obtain compounds of differentiated structures, by combining two or more pharmacophoric groups, for the biological applications, and the combination between carbonic structure and chromophores for application in light emitting devices. Therefore, this research project aims to study the production of heterocyclic compounds derived from piperazines, quinoxolines, pyrimidines, chromenes, diazepines, acridones and acridines, containing a lactonic ring and together substituents donors and acceptors of H. For this will be studied synthetic routes via domino and multicomponent reactions, which will be optimized by the use of various solvents, catalytic systems and microwave irradiation, in order to obtain these derivatives more efficiently. Several heterocyclic compounds to be obtained in this proposal have both structural characteristics present in bioactive compounds and in compounds with luminescent properties. All the products obtained will have their structures confirmed by NMR and MS analysis. The compounds will also undergo biological evaluation and UV / Vis / fluorescence studies. Biological assays will be carried out in collaboration with researchers from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and the Universidade de Franca with which our group has several collaboration projects and published works.
