Adaptive multidimensional magnetohydrodynamic modelling in the AMROC framework for space applications

This visit contributes to an ongoing research effort in combining the wavelet-based multiresolution regularity detection methodology by the applicant with the generic block-structured mesh adaptation software AMROC (Adaptive Mesh Refinement in Object-oriented C++), developed by the co-application. The overarching, long-term objective is the development of a resistive three-dimensional parallel dynamically adaptive finite volume solver that will permit fast and reliable space weather simulations. During the visit, a three-dimensional hydrodynamic and magnetohydrodynamic models will be used to test the present developments in terms of accuracy and computational efficiency. Subsequently, technically relevant configurations of space physics instabilities will be studied. During the visit, a lecture and discussion sections on the AMROC framework will be offered. Discussion meetings for future joint projects will also be carried out. (AU)
