Abstract
The goal of this application is to initiate collaborative research between the laboratory of Albert Mulenga and Aparecida Tanaka to the advance exchange of ideas and student training between the two laboratories. The TAMU and São Paulo principal investigators work on complementary research lines, to develop transmission blocking vacines to prevent transmission of vector borne disease agents. This collaborative research will set up the foundation toward developing a joint proposal focusing on understanding how proteases and protease inhibitors of the cattle fever tick, Rhipicephalus microplus regulate interactions between this tick cattle and Babesia parasites. Goals of this application will be accomplished by establishing a collaborative framework that will be based on scientific exchanges through student and post doctoral training. (AU)
